Roche NZ selected Alzheimers NZ as the charity organisation to support for 2015/2016. The support will be provided in two ways – financial donation as well as a ‘hands up’ to the local Auckland organisation. The donation to Alzheimers NZ in 2015 was $10,000.
In 2016 the Roche team will be joining Alzheimers Auckland volunteers to help with a local socialisation programme. This will involve Roche staff offering time and assistance to help a group of people, affected by dementia, to enjoy activities in the greater Auckland area.
In February Roche NZ participated in a walk to 'Conquer Rangitoto' as a way to raise money for Alzheimers New Zealand. Nearly twenty members of the team enjoyed a leisurely hike up this historic volcano and together raised $1,695. The weather was glorious, the exercise was fun and the focus of the day was to support our nominated charity in this fundraising event. Nearly every track on the island was explored including some off piste terrain. We finished the day with a dip in the Waitemata Harbour to cool off.
It was a great team effort. We were delighted that Reuben Thorne and Anne Schumacher were able to join us for this wonderful event.

Roche Children’s Walk
Roche Diagnostics New Zealand and Roche Products New Zealand participated in the Roche Global Children’s Walk 2015. Over 40 participants were sponsored by friends and family and together we raised in excess of $7,000. As 50% of the funds raised can be used in support of a local charity we donated $3,500 to the Starship Foundation and the other $3,500 to the Children of Malawi.
This Roche Global initiative has raised over 12.5million Swiss Francs since it started in 2003. With the purpose of encouraging self-sustainable living through skill-building, the money which Roche employees collect during the 24-hour global event is matched by Roche. 50% of the funds raised can be used in support of local children or the entire amount can be donated to help children in one of the least developed countries in the world; Malawi in Southeast Africa.
